Our Sheffield branch has an extensive range of high end bathroom suites & accessories, and we think it’s important that we have specialists in-house who can advise on the best ones to suit your needs. That’s where Ian comes in. He’s our Bathroom Showroom Manager and your guide to all of our bathroom products. Whether you simply want to replace your bath or sink, need a complete bathroom makeover or just fancy having a chat about design possibilities, he’s your man. What is your favourite product? Ian: In 2012 we introduced the extensive Villeroy & Boch sanitary ware range, and I have been really impressed with the quality of the products on offer. I recently got back from a bathroom exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany and V&B had some new ranges which will be launched this Summer. I cannot wait to display and (hopefully) sell these products.

Ian: I enjoy going for walks with my wife Caroline and socialising with friends and family. I am a season ticket holder at Sheffield Wednesday and enjoy going to the matches with my mates, although it’s not that relaxing! What’s your favourite type of music? Ian: All music really, but I like Rock and Pop mainly. What is the most enjoyable part of your job? Ian: I really enjoy building a relationship with customers, from the first meet and greet to the end of a job. Sometimes with a full fit design you meet the customer regularly and build up trust so you can bounce ideas off each other to create the perfect bathroom. It’s so rewarding to see the end of a project and more importantly a happy customer. I’m lucky that so many past customers have been so enthused with their finished project that they’ve asked me to help with another part of their home, with some customers I have gone on to help them with four or five rooms! What’s the funniest/strangest thing that’s ever happened at work? Ian: The strangest thing that has ever happened was probably when I was about to dial a customer’s number that I hadn’t heard from in months, and when I picked up the phone the man in question was already on the other end of the phone! The funniest (and wettest!) thing that’s ever happened was probably when my colleague James had the bright idea to move a huge free standing bath in the pouring rain. Are you any good at tiling or D.I.Y-ing yourself? Ian: I’m ok at painting, and I once tiled my mother’s kitchen floor. I thought it looked alright, my mum might say differently though! Describe your typical day as Bathroom Showroom Manager? Ian: My typical day really varies. Sometimes I spend the day meeting reps from different suppliers negotiating product prices and other times I could be going to a customer house visit to discuss a CAD drawing of their soon-to-be bathroom. I also spend a lot of time in the showroom helping customers who are just browsing, and often they end up with a full bathroom suite! Each day I experience a different day and meet different people. Finally, what advice would you give to someone starting a bathroom project? Ian: Have patience, and expect to run over the time frame you have given yourself. It’s easy to be optimistic about the amount of time a project will take before it has begun! When re-modelling your bathroom, it’s best to start with a blank canvas. If all of the old bathroom is ripped out it will be easier if any plumbing needs to done, and you can have peace of mind knowing your new bathroom has been done to the highest standard from start to finish.
