Colour and Tile Trends for Autumn / Winter 2020

When we transition over from summer through to the autumn and winter months, it is not just the weather that changes - everything from fashion to recipes are seasonally influenced. Anyone with a passion for interior design will know that autumn and winter brings an exciting new set of trends to get excited about using in our homes.

If you are thinking of having a revamp of your bathroom or kitchen, maybe by introducing some new tiling or by giving the whole room a fresh look, here are the autumn and winter colour trends to watch out for in 2020:

Earthy clay shades

In autumn, natural colours inspired by the great outdoors often make it into the top trends and this year it is earthy clay shades that people are going wild for. When it comes to tiling, stone coloured tiles are really popular and can be paired with a complementary colour to make it pop.

We love matt greys and charcoals as a base colour for a neutral room. The Stratford porcelain tiles and Materials Ice (pictured below) are ideal for adding that natural stone look to your bathroom.

Terracotta

For many people, Terracotta brings back fond memories of European holidays and beautiful sunshine and now it is fully on-trend you can bring that association of warmth into your home. Interestingly, Terracotta translates in Italian to ‘baked earth’ and is a prime example of how natural colours can influence the feeling of warmth in a room. Give a subtle nod to this trend with our Cotto collection.

Cosy Countryside

The British countryside is swathed with stunning autumnal colours with reds, browns, oranges, and hints of gold all around. The cosy countryside colour trend takes inspiration from all these warming colours you would expect to see on a crisp, walk through the countryside in autumn. The Yorkshire Tile Company’s Laura Tiles are perfect for tiling your hallway floor to draw that golden glow into your home.

 Abstract

Another trend that is gaining a lot of traction is using bright, vibrant colours that ‘pop’ to create an eye-catching feature wall. Using the bright contrast against more subtle colours will give an arty, modern twist to any room. You can use colourful patterns to achieve a modern look or keep it simple with just a splash of colour. For some inspiration, look at what we have done with the Artist Oasis Décor tiles to make a section of the wall fully capture the attention in the room.

Re-tiling part or all of a room can help give your home a lovely seasonal boost, so if you are looking for a new DIY project in time for autumn and winter, then take a look at our huge range of tiles to give you some ideas and get your creativity flowing.
