What is Thassos marble?
Thassos marble is the whitest natural marble available on the planet and contains a fantastic crystalline structure. As the name suggests, the marble is quarried from the Greek island of Thassos, situated approximately 7 miles off the Greek mainland in the Aegaen Sea.

The marble has been quarried on the island since around 6th century BC. In particular, the Romans were famous for importing the marble in huge quantities to build impressive structures
and monuments.
Installed in luxury establishments
Today, the expense of Thassos marble, and the elegant look that it has to offer means it is commonly used in places to heighten or reflect the luxury of an establishment or business, for example, the Ritz Hotel.
However, the marble is now becoming more available to the consumer market and is being offered as a luxury purchase for domestic tiling projects (mainly in bathrooms).
The suggested
retail selling price for Thassos marble is around £130 Square metre, but for a limited time only, we are selling this product at just £75 Square metre including VAT.
Grades/quality
Just like all natural stone, different quarries on the island can produce different grades (quality) of the marble.
With Thassos marble, the 'quality' is defined by the colour - the more pure white the stone is, the higher the quality.
The quality of the marble we are selling at The Yorkshire Tile Company is the highest grade (pure white)!
