Frequently Asked Questions
On this page you will find the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions at The Yorkshire Tile Company:
Q: Do you stock all tiles displayed in your showroom and on your website?
A: At any one time, we stock around £5million of tiles across our five branches therefore it is more than likely that the tiles you see in our showroom and on our website are available from stock. However, some tiles may be kept at another YTC branch: these can be transferred between branches within 1-2 days.
Q: How long do I have to wait for tiles you don't have in stock?
A: Because we source our tiles from all over the world (i.e. UK, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Turkey, China, etc), there are different lead times for different tiles, depending on the manufacturer. Tiles from UK manufacturers can usually be obtained within 7-10 days, where tiles from overseas manufacturers may take approx 3-4 weeks. A YTC member of staff will advise you on any waiting periods.
Q: How many tiles will I need?
A: If you are using a professional tiler to fix your tiles, they will measure up for you and advise you on your required quantities (usually in square metres). However, if you are looking to estimate yourself, we have supplied a free
tile calculator to help you.
Q: Do I have to purchase full boxes?
If it is a stock item, we don't hold you to purchasing tiles in full box quantities - we are happy to split boxes so you can purchase the exact number of tiles that you need. Only Special Order items must be ordered in full boxes. A member of staff can inform you of how many tiles are in a box for special order purchases.
Q: Why is it recommended that I purchase more tiles than I actually need?
A: We always recommend that you purchase an additional 5% - 10% on top of what you need, to allow for any breakages and cuts. These can be returned if you do not use them (not applicable to special order tiles). Visit our return policy page for more details. If you purchase the exact amount you need and require more of the same tile at a later date, we cannot guarantee that we will still have stock of the same shade.
Q: What grouts, adhesives, trim, etc will I need?
A: There are many factors that determine what grout and adhesive you will need including the type of tile, where the tile will be fixed, what surface you are tiling onto, etc. If you are using a professional tiler, they will advise you on what you need, or provide these materials as part of their service. Q: I don't know what product is right for me - can you help?
A: Our
expert staff are always at hand to offer you free advice, so please consult them if you are unsure what tiles would look good for your home/project.
Q: Should I be aware of tile shade variances?
A: Only if you are purchasing more of the same tiles at a later date. The YTC cannot guarantee that we will have in stock the same shade tone that you originally purchased first time. Ask a member of staff for more details.
Q: Do you supply a tiling service?
A: We do not supply a tiling service to fix tiles, however, you can find tilers in your area by using the FREE Tiler World service online.
